Nestled under the towering canopy of old oaks in McKinney, Texas, The Yard is the perfect spot to bring your family and friends. It is a sports bar, an American restaurant, and a cocktail bar all rolled into one. The Yard's spacious patio seating and plenty of space in the yard make it an inviting place to eat, drink, and play outside.
The property on which The Yard sits dates back to 1855 and has an interesting history. Dr. Abbott, who owned the local drugstore in downtown McKinney, was the first person to live in the farmhouse. Later, Dr. Pearson, a dentist who also had an office on the square, purchased the property and gave a share of it to his sister-in-law, Maggie Pearson. Her husband, James Madison Pearson, who was elected Mayor in 1893 and served until 1903, is very famous in McKinney's history. He was instrumental in building the city's first water and sewer system, first public school, and enacting the city's first building codes. The house and property remained residential until the late 1990s, when it was converted to a restaurant. In 2016, 33 Restaurant Group purchased the property and spent over two years restoring it. The Yard opened for business on September 4th, 2018.
The Yard's menu offers a variety of classic backyard grub, including brisket nachos, burrito bowls, black bean burgers, turkey club sandwiches, chicken fingers, and more. They also serve frozen margaritas and cold Shiner Bock, which pair perfectly with their food. The ambiance is casual and trendy, making it an ideal spot for a night out with friends or family. Preston has made a career at 33 Restaurant Group, which also owns and operates other successful restaurants in the area, including Cadillac Pizza Pub in McKinney, Heritage Pizza & Taproom in The Colony, Taverna Rossa in Plano and Southlake, and Union Bear Brewing Co in Plano.
