Founded by brothers Wade and Ken Mattingly, the idea for the brewery was born out of a desire to bring a small craft beer pub to the Old Louisville neighborhood. However, local zoning laws proved to be a hindrance, and the Mattingly brothers quickly realized they needed to think bigger.

With newfound resolve, the brothers struck a deal - if Wade could find a space and build it out for a brewery, Ken would brew the beer. Thus, Old Louisville Brewery was born. After months of searching, Wade found the perfect property in disrepair and reached out to the owner via Facebook. Work began on the space in August 2014, with the Mattingly brothers utilizing 85% recycled or repurposed materials to build out the entire space by hand.
