The history of Tally-Ho is rich, with the property being sold to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene (Wilhelmina) Thrash in the 1920s. Mrs. Thrash provided much of the information about the early building and the property was subdivided along Mangum Avenue into 27 lots. The Buena Vista Heights area was used during the Civil War in the defense of Selma by a rag-tag army of young lads and old men who scattered when the Federals arrived. Upon the arrival of Gen. Wilson, cannon were emplaced on the ridge above Mangum Ave. to lob shells into the downtown area, where the Confederate Arsenal was located along the Alabama River.
