My focus in life had been engineering for a very long time. But a trip to South America three years ago inspired me to change focus. Travel is known to help us reset, to clear our minds, to renew our energy and passion for learning. We can imagine new possibilities when we're away from the usual everyday sights, sounds, and activities.
So there I was wandering around the village of Ollantaytambo, Peru, when I came upon a small museum dedicated to the production of chocolate. Seeing the local chocolate makers and their connection to the land and the food that grew around them sparked a new calling in me:
"Chocolate. I have to make chocolate."
I was surprised that the possibility of a career in chocolate hadn't occurred to me before, because I've loved it since I was a kid. I suspect everyone has some personal connection to chocolate. For me, that connection became my purpose in life: to learn
