Anthony van Dillen, the founder of Freedom Motors USA, brought the first rear-entry wheelchair van concept over from the Netherlands in 1985. The prototype of a rear-entry handicap accessible vehicle after a long trans-Atlantic flight. Anthony saw the need for a strong and reliable wheelchair-accessible vehicle conversion built on a platform other than the full-size gas-guzzling vans of the day. Then the lowered floor (Kneelvan) wheelchair-accessible minivan concept was invented. Freedom Motors USA remains the largest producer of Kneelvan minivans in the United States. In 1996, Sieto van Dillen, Anthony van Dillen's son, purchased the company. Like his father, Sieto recognized that customers wanted more options when choosing a mobility vehicle and set out to create the most innovative, cutting-edge mobility vehicle conversions that anyone has ever seen.
