The idea for the Emerson Garfield Farmers' Market was first hatched in May of 2013 by members of the Emerson Garfield Neighborhood Council. Thanks to additional support from Catholic Charities, Project Hope Spokane, and Knox Presbyterian Church, along with a trio of business donors, it launched mid-season (July 17) that same year with approximately 15 vendors. Knox Presbyterian generously hosted the market in the church's parking lot for the first three years.

The market's first full season was in 2014, and it has continued to grow in popularity ever since. Enthusiasm on the part of the wider vendor community saw the total vendor count rise to nearly 30 during peak season; the loyalty of our patrons and their positive word of mouth helped to double total market sales.
