The founder of the Conservatory Ballet, Julia Cziller Redick, began her training in Budapest, Hungary, at the Hungarian Opera House and the Artist Academy, where she was taught the Vaganova method. Following the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, Ms. Redick immigrated to the United States and continued her studies with her mother, Mme Alicia Reisz, Prima Ballerina of the Hungarian Opera. During this time, Ms. Redick also studied with Carol Lynn, Dale Senhardt, Ann Parsons, and Charles Weidman. She performed with the Baltimore Opera, National Ballet, under the direction of Frederick Franklin, and the former Maryland Ballet, under Cathleen Crofton and Yuri Chatal. Ms. Redick was also head of the dance department at Hannah More Academy in Reisterstown, Maryland, and of St. Timothy's School in Stevenson, Maryland.
