The building was originally constructed in 1893 by Emily Baker, the widow of J.I. Case Co. founder Robert H. Baker. Since then, it has been acquired by Horlick Malted Milk Company's Alexander J. Horlick and Western Publishing board member Horace Benstead. It was eventually donated to the nursing program for St. Luke's Hospital and named Benstead Hall after Henrietta Benstead, Horace's mother. The Christmas House received its name in 1985 when it became host to the annual Christmas House for Cancer Benefit, which was held from 1987 to 1995.

Now, the beautifully restored Christmas House is a Bed & Breakfast, offering warm hospitality, four elegant suites with private baths, meeting/event space, and a delicious breakfast. Each suite is tailored to meet guests' needs, ensuring ultimate comfort and relaxation throughout their stay.
