The Academy of Sound has a rich history that dates back to 1997 when the owner and director, Erin Chisman began teaching piano out of her home. Over the years, the institution has grown, and in 2003, Erin's Piano Studio moved to downtown Oregon. By 2005, the Academy had expanded to two teaching studios, and in 2007, it became Academy of Sound, LLC.

In 2008, the Academy was temporarily relocated to the People's United Methodist Church after two fires in one week devastated their original location. Despite the move, student numbers grew to be too many to take back to the previous two-studio location. In 2009, the Academy finally moved back to the original location after rebuilding was completed. They expanded to 5 teaching studios, added a large waiting area, and additional facilities.

From March 2012 to August 2013, the Academy of Sound operated an outreach location in Evansville, WI, and in 2015, the Academy of Sound Foundation, Inc. was founded as a nonprofit partner with the Academy of Sound. The Foundation provides scholarships and outreach to those who need it.

Erin Chisman, the owner and director of Academy of Sound, has an extensive background in music and education. She is a certified piano teacher from the Mayron Cole Conservatory and a member of the Wisconsin Music Educators Association. Erin's hobbies include extreme hiking, world adventure travel, biking, and exploring tea lounges and tech arenas in Northern California.
