The history of The Red Roost dates back to the late 1940s when Frank Valentine constructed a chicken house of cinder block and oak. The chicken house was abandoned in the early 1960s when a series of high tides drowned the last flocks that would reside there. In 1971, Frank Palmer transformed the site into campsites and christened it the Red Roost Campground. The old chicken house was converted into a recreation room and general store. However, in 1973 when the Arab oil embargo sent gasoline prices soaring, Frank decided to experiment with steaming crabs and fresh local corn, and The Red Roost Restaurant was born.

Today, the restaurant is owned and operated by brothers Tom and John Knorr, who are keeping the Red Roost's traditions alive. The menu features all you can eat blue crabs, snow crabs, steamed shrimp, and fried chicken, as well as fresh seafood and other delicious entrees. It's no wonder The Red Roost has been voted #1 for Crabs by Metropolitan Magazine for five years in a row!
