The Old Shillelagh, located in Detroit, MI 48226, has become an iconic institution in downtown Detroit. This corner bar, owned by the retired Detroit police officer John Brady, who was raised in Dublin, has been a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike since it opened its doors in February 1975.

The Old Shillelagh boasts an excellent burger and becomes the biggest sports bar downtown on game days. They even offer a free shuttle service to and from all Tiger, Lion and Red Wing games, as well as all major concerts. But it's not just sports fans who come to The Old Shillelagh. On Friday and Saturday nights, this three-floor entertainment complex transforms into a lively spot for dancing and fun. The first floor features a DJ and dancing while the rooftop deck provides a great spot to enjoy the warm summer nights. The second floor has a live band that performs Irish drinking songs and classic rock.

This iconic establishment has a rich history that dates back to its opening in 1975. The second floor was added only one year later, on Parade Sunday in 1976. In 1977, a fire almost claimed The Old Shillelagh. But it was brought back to life by John's daughter, Barb, who took over in 1986 and added her vision to the business. Her addition of the massive circus-style tent party made the St. Patrick's Day party, which is now the biggest and the best in the region.

In 2005, a third generation took the reins of The Old Shillelagh. Shellie took over and made it a priority to outfit the roof with a patio that is heated in the winter and open air in the summer. Despite the changes, The Old Shillelagh remains rooted in Detroit's culture and history, and Detroiters love it!
