Tucked away in the heart of Springfield, Massachusetts lies Student Prince, a timeless establishment that has been serving up European, American steak and seafood, and German cuisine since 1935. The restaurant is a true gem, boasting one of the most authentic German and Bavarian beer selections in the Northeast.

Upon entering the newly remodeled restaurant, guests are welcomed by a world-class collection of steins and corkscrews that are on display. The woodwork in the bar area is original, despite generations of "Gemutlichkeit," and the restaurant has grown from a small collection of twenty steins to one of the largest in the United States.

The history of Student Prince runs deep, dating back to 1660 when John Pynchon constructed a fort to defend the tiny settlement of Springfield. In October of 1675, the town was burned to the ground by the forces of King Phillip's Pocumtuck Indians, with only Pynchon's fort withstanding the attack. The fort finally fell to urban renewal in 1831, but the legacy of its history lives on through the continued presence of Student Prince.

The restaurant was opened on September 24, 1935, by Paul Schoeder, who was later joined by his partner Erna Sievers. The restaurant was named after Sigmund Romberg's lighthearted operetta of Heidelberg student life, The Student Prince. Miss Sievers passed away in 1961, and Rupprecht and Tante Grete (Margarethe Silinski) took over the establishment. Mrs. Silinski retired in 1971, and Rupprecht and his family have run the restaurant ever since.

Despite serving many celebrities over the years, the restaurant is most proud of its loyal local customers and delicious food. The staff at Student Prince strives to provide each guest with a pleasant and memorable experience.
