Sakkhii was started by Latika G. affectionately known as "Latika Aunty" or "Latika Bhen" on Oak Tree Road, the South Asian main street for shopping in Central New Jersey. Back home in India, Latika Aunty was a housewife (homemaker) but when she immigrated to the United States in 2003 with her husband searching for economic opportunity for their two young children, circumstances were financially difficult. As countless women across the country do every single day, Latika Aunty had to step up and continue to be a mother, wife, and homemaker while also becoming a breadwinner alongside her husband. She had always had an eye for fashion so she started off by working in sales at various Indian clothing stores around Oak Tree Road. Slowly learning the ropes, she began managing stores. Eventually, after a decade of tireless hard work, she realized her entrepreneurial dream of founding her own South Asian clothing store: Sakkhii. Now with her children being adults, Sakkhii is her baby.
