In the spring of 1973, the shop started carrying Gitane bicycles and the company name was changed to Cross Country Ski Chalet/Now Bikes. Paul eventually took over operations of the business from his father in 1976 after leaving philosophy studies at the University of Minnesota. In 1978, Bob Sumada joined the business, bringing a long-time friendship with Paul since second grade and college roommate.

Now Bikes & Fitness has since consolidated their business from seven stores to two locations, offering a uniquely personal service.
