The creamery is owned and operated by Melanie (Parciak) Goggin and her husband, Dennis. Melanie graduated from Bryant University in '03 with a degree in business and has worked in the retail frozen-dessert industry since 2004. Her husband, Dennis, is an active duty guardsman and has served our country for the last 13 years in the Connecticut Air National Guard as a munitions specialist.

With their combined passion for ice cream and their desire to bring a fun family atmosphere to their community, the couple purchased Pawcatuck's former Downtown Creamery in March 2012 and re-opened its doors as Mel's Downtown Creamery on March 17th of the same year. Located in the old Higgins Building, the creamery gently updates the flair of a 1950's ice-cream shoppe to 2012, making it a charming and nostalgic spot for both locals and visitors.
