Wolfgang was trained as a plumber and steam fitter in Europe and arrived in New York where he quickly learned the deli business, opening up shops in Merrick, Rockville Center, Northport, and Massapequa on Long Island. He fell in love with upstate New York and decided to retire there. Meanwhile, Loretta taught school, was a stay-at-home mom, then worked for European American Bank in the commercial loan department. Both decided they wanted to run a bed and breakfast and purchased the Limestone Mansion in 1997.
