Founded by Joseph and Stephanie Cantu, J & J Hip Hop Dance & Performing Arts Company originally started as a small hip hop dance crew called Hiz Hop Dance Crew in 2008. The crew was formed for the sole purpose of using their gifts of hip hop dance and breakdancing to inspire hurting communities, families, and hearts. Since then, the Positive Hip Hop Dance Movement in Colorado Springs has grown rapidly and J & J Hip Hop Dance & Performing Arts Company was formed to meet the demand of students who wanted to be a part of this inspirational movement.

Joseph, co-founder of J & J Hip Hop Dance & Performing Arts Company, grew up as a studio kid watching his mom teach Latin ballroom dancing for Arthur Murray Dance Company. However, hip hop dance was always Joseph's passion. He was inspired by the street dancers at his schools in California who seemed to tell stories through their dance routines. Joseph's background as a youth pastor for street youth, many of whom were hip hop and break dancers, eventually led to the formation of the Hiz Hop Dance Crew and, ultimately, J & J Hip Hop Dance & Performing Arts Company.
