Situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts, ImprovBoston is a non-profit theater and comedy school that has been dedicated to the collaborative process of improvisation and the art of comedy since 1982. The history of ImprovBoston dates back to 1982 when Ellen Holbrook, a former student of Chicago’s Second City, trained several teams of improvisers to compete in the "Improv Olympics" at Reilly's Beef and Pub in Boston by Government Center. Soon after, they moved to Satch's, a nightclub behind Copley Square. In 1993, ImprovBoston acquired the lease on the Back Alley Theater in Inman Square, which served as their home for many years. In late 2007, they found a new home on Prospect Street near the corner of Mass Ave. It had everything the theater could dream of, including room for a real lobby and a second performing area and a location close to the T.

ImprovBoston offers affordable and accessible high-quality entertainment and education to the community. They provide a variety of shows, including the Naked Comedy Showcase every first Thursday of the month, in which performers drop their pants and take the stage, and Harold Night, where performers take a single suggestion from the audience and turn it into an hour-long comedic performance.
