The bakery has a long history in the Red Wing community. It was first started by Bill Pirius in 1955 and then taken over by Bob and Nancy Braschler in 1972. Bob and Nancy took the bakery to the next level in the Red Wing area by expanding and adding to the great bakery it is today. In 2007, the bakery was sold to its current owners, Bill and Robyn Hanisch. Despite the change in names, from Pirius to Braschler to Hanisch, the tradition of excellent bakery products has continued.

Hanisch Bakery & Coffee Shop is truly a family-run bakery, with Bill Hanisch's family helping out where needed. Bill himself started working at the bakery at the young age of 15, mopping floors and packaging in the basement. With hard work and dedication, he worked his way up to night baking and eventually realized his dream of owning the bakery in 2007.
