Dr. Mike attended Louisiana State University, where he was a walk-on member of the LSU Tiger football team and was named to the All Southeastern Conference team in 1967. He graduated from LSU Medical School in 1971. Brenda began working for Title VII Indian Education of the Lafourche Parish School Board in 1976, where she served as Director/Cultural Resource Specialist until her retirement in 2008. Brenda began serving on the Tribal Council of the United Houma Nation in 1992. She was elected Principal Chief of the 17,000 member United Houma Nation in 1997 and served in this position for 13 years. Mike and Brenda have been recognized and honored with numerous awards for their activism and ongoing commitment to Gulf Coast communities.
