The cruises were so successful that a separate business, B B Riverboats, was created in March of 1980.

Captain Alan Bernstein's career in the river industry began in 1970 as a deckhand on the historic Steamer Delta Queen. He received his first Master's license in March of 1981 and has since upgraded to currently hold a Western Rivers 1600 ton Master's license, 100 ton Inland Master's License, and an unlimited Master of Towing License for the Western Rivers.
